Job Description
Southwestern Motor Transport (SMT) is a well-established company with over 95 years of experience in providing premier Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) transportation services. Based out of Austin, TX, SMT has built a solid reputation for safely and efficiently handling a variety of freight types. This successful track record stems from its unwavering commitment to safety, timely deliveries, and employee satisfaction. As a company that values its workforce, SMT offers competitive pay, extensive benefits, and quality home time, making it a sought-after employer for professional drivers looking for a long-lasting career in the transportation industry.
SMT is currently hiring Delivery Drivers for its Austin location. These drivers will primarily be responsible for picking up and delivering freight within the local area, ensuring that goods reach their destinations safely and on time. A key aspect of this role includes daily home time and weekends off, providing an excellent work-life balance that many drivers desire. The position requires a Class A CDL license and a Hazmat endorsement, reflecting the company’s focus on transporting hazardous materials safely and in compliance with regulations. Candidates must have a minimum of one year of recent tractor-trailer experience, ideally within the past three years, and meet safety records guidelines including no major preventable accidents and limited highway convictions.
The role of Delivery Driver at SMT is both rewarding and challenging. Drivers conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to maintain vehicle safety standards and operational efficiency while complying with all Department of Transportation (DOT) safety regulations. Additionally, drivers engage in backing into docks multiple times daily and actively participate in loading and unloading freight—a physically demanding yet essential part of the role. Communication is also crucial, as drivers are expected to maintain consistent contact with supervisors and coworkers to ensure smooth logistics operations throughout their route. Maintaining a professional image at all times exemplifies SMT's dedication to quality customer service and operational excellence.
Southwestern Motor Transport isn’t just an employer—it’s a career-building partner offering life-enhancing benefits such as health, dental, and life insurance, profit sharing and 401(k) plans for financial security, paid vacation and holiday pay, as well as weekly pay delivered through direct deposit.
