Job Description
Southwestern Motor Transport (SMT) is a well-established and reputable company in the transportation industry, specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services. With over 95 years of experience, SMT has built a solid reputation for providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation services across the United States. As a premier provider of LTL transportation, SMT offers diverse career opportunities for professional drivers who value safety and customer satisfaction. The company is known for its commitment to employee well-being, offering industry-leading pay, comprehensive benefits, and quality home time, which makes it an attractive employer for those seeking long-term careers in trucking and freight delivery. SMT's focus on safety, professionalism, and operational excellence has made it a trusted name in the industry, and it continues to grow by maintaining high standards for its drivers and employees.
The position of Delivery Driver, based in Austin, TX, is a vital role within Southwestern Motor Transport. This local pick-up and delivery role allows drivers to return home daily with weekends off, providing a desirable work-life balance that is often hard to find in the transportation sector. The Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of freight within the local area, ensuring timely deliveries and pickups while maintaining compliance with all DOT safety regulations. The role requires a minimum of one year of recent, verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience coupled with a valid Class A CDL and a Hazmat endorsement, underscoring the importance of safety and professional driving skills.
A Delivery Driver at SMT will perform various critical duties such as conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, loading and unloading freight, maneuvering large vehicles into docks safely multiple times per day, and maintaining constant communication with supervisors and teammates to ensure smooth service operations. The company values professional conduct and expects its drivers to present themselves in a manner that reflects the company’s standards and ethos. Drivers who join SMT will benefit from competitive pay, profit-sharing, 401K options, as well as health, dental, and life insurance. Vacation and holiday pay, along with weekly pay and direct deposit, further enhance the compensation package, providing financial security and peace of mind.
SMT welcomes drivers who are at least 22 years old, have a clean driving record with no major preventable accidents in the past three years, and have no more than two highway convictions in the last two years. While linehaul or pick-up and delivery experience is preferred, SMT is primarily focused on safety-minded professionals ready to contribute to the company’s ongoing success. The company culture emphasizes responsibility, reliability, and a team-oriented approach to logistics and freight management. This role is suitable for experienced drivers seeking a steady schedule, competitive benefits, and the chance to work for a longstanding industry leader dedicated to its employees. Joining Southwestern Motor Transport means becoming part of a team with nearly a century of transportation expertise and a bright future in freight delivery.
