Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a prominent broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a vital role in the food distribution industry by serving a diverse range of customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on building strong and lasting relationships with these local customers through a dedicated team that includes sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other foodservice experts. This team not only delivers high-quality food products but also works closely with clients to provide valuable insights and assistance in areas such as menu development, product selection, operational strategies, and improving overall business performance. By doing so, Performance Foodservice helps independent restaurant owners and other clients achieve their business goals and elevate their service standards. The firm is distinguished by its commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment, where employees are rewarded and recognized for their contributions. The company offers its workforce competitive pay starting at a minimum of $350 per day, along with comprehensive health and wellness benefits from day one, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and other valuable perks. This ensures that employees not only feel valued but also supported in their personal and professional growth.

The role of a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver with Performance Foodservice is essential in ensuring the timely and safe delivery of food-related products across local and interstate routes. Drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks, performing a variety of delivery types, including intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive and drop routes. Their primary mission is to deliver customer orders accurately, maintain the condition of the products during transit, and uphold the company’s reputation by fostering strong relationships with customers as the face of the organization. Working shifts typically range from 10 to 12 hours, with schedules that avoid Sundays and feature split days off to support work-life balance. Drivers are dispatched between midnight and 5 AM, depending on their assigned routes, operating four to five days per week based on business needs.

The driver’s responsibilities encompass comprehensive safety inspections before and after trips, adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and company safety policies. This includes inspecting the tractor, truck, and trailer to ensure they meet stringent safety standards and reporting any issues promptly. In addition to ensuring compliance, drivers perform essential operational tasks such as loading and unloading freight, verifying loads and delivery paperwork for accuracy, securing vehicles and cargo properly, and maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in work areas and equipment. They communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring all inquiries are addressed promptly and accurately. Drivers also handle cash or check collections where applicable and manage customer returns carefully. Documentation is a significant part of the role, requiring accurate and legible completion of all necessary delivery and transportation records, including hours of service logs.

Performance Foodservice not only provides a competitive compensation package and a safe working environment but also offers extensive opportunities for career growth within the food distribution industry. Drivers who join the company become essential contributors to the vital supply chain that supports America's food service sector. The company’s culture emphasizes team collaboration, mutual respect, and recognition of employee achievements, creating a workplace where every team member can thrive and develop professionally. By becoming a delivery driver at Performance Foodservice, individuals take on a challenging yet rewarding role that blends operational skills, customer service, and safety compliance in a dynamic industry environment.
