The CDL-A Driver role within Performance Foodservice is a vital position in the food supply chain, responsible for ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient delivery of food and related products to customers. This role is full-time, with competitive pay at $393 or more per day, with bi-weekly compensation and a work schedule from Monday to Friday during day shifts, allowing employees to return home daily. Drivers serve as the public face of the company, representing its values and commitment to quality service by building lasting relationships with clients nationwide. The CDL-A Driver operates a tractor trailer or straight truck for various routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight routes, all performed with strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 12 or more months commercial driving experience
  • valid CDL-A license
  • must be 21 or older
  • meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • have or able to obtain valid DOT Health Card
  • ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and stack freight weighing between 10 and 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • must be 21 or older

  • valid current or ability to secure DOT Health Card
  • ability to hand-lift and use equipment to move and stack product cases and freight generally ranging between 10 to 90 pounds

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • functions as a team member within the department and organization
  • performs required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor, truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • reports safety issues and necessary repairs
  • follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving policies
  • inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • performs count checks and verifies customer invoices
  • moves tractor to loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer
  • drives and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route schedules
  • unloads products and transports items into designated storage areas
  • performs damage control checks and contacts supervisor as needed
  • verifies delivery with customers and obtains signatures
  • collects payments where required
  • loads customer returns and secures trailer doors
  • unloads damaged goods and completes necessary paperwork
  • performs daily log and hours of service recording
  • maintains cleanliness and housekeeping of trailers and loading dock
  • completes necessary paperwork at end of shift
  • performs other related duties as assigned
