Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), specializes in delivering food and related products to a diverse clientele that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Known for its commitment to high-quality service, Performance Foodservice has cultivated a team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and operational experts who closely collaborate with customers to enhance their operations. By offering tailored advice on everything from menu development and product selection to overall operational strategies, Performance Foodservice helps independent restaurateurs and foodservice providers thrive in competitive markets. The company emphasizes a culture of respect, recognition, and safety, alongside competitive pay and comprehensive benefits, including day one health and wellness coverage, a 401K employer matching program, an employee stock purchase plan, education assistance, and paid time off.
The position available is an entry-level Driver Trainee role focused on preparing individuals to become skilled drivers of tractor trailers or straight trucks. This role provides comprehensive training through Performance Food Group's Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program to equip trainees with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to operate safely across intrastate and interstate routes, including local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR) shuttles, and overnight assignments. Trainees will learn to manage deliveries of various food and food-related products with strict adherence to company policies, Department of Transportation regulations, and customer service standards.
The Driver Trainee plays a crucial role in the food distribution chain, supporting America's food distribution system by ensuring timely and safe delivery of products. This role involves riding along with experienced driver trainers, performing vehicle inspections and safety checks, securing loads, verifying delivery paperwork, unloading goods, and maintaining accurate hourly logs according to federal and state regulations. Furthermore, the position demands the physical ability to handle freight, including lifting and using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates. Beyond driving skills, the role requires exemplary professionalism and communication skills to interact effectively with customers, vendors, and team members, reflecting the company’s values and customer-first approach. Effective teamwork and attention to detail are essential, as the trainee will be responsible for helping uphold a safe and clean work environment, including housekeeping duties related to the equipment and loading dock areas.
Compensation for this position averages $1,600 per week after training, with a $2,500 sign-on bonus available under specific terms and conditions. Work schedules typically range from four to five days per week, Monday through Saturday, starting early morning and continuing until delivery routes and tasks are complete. This employment opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking to launch a career in commercial driving, with robust support and growth prospects in a reputable industry leader.
