Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor under the Performance Food Group (PFG) umbrella, is a distinguished partner to a wide array of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and quick-service eateries. Known for its dedicated team of sales professionals, chefs, consultants, and operational experts, Performance Foodservice not only delivers high-quality food products but also provides invaluable advice on menu development, operational enhancements, and product selection. This comprehensive support helps independent restaurant owners and other clients thrive and grow in a competitive market. With a strong emphasis on customer relationships, safety, and inclusivity, the company fosters an environment where employees are recognized, rewarded, and respected, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and growth.
The role of a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice is vital within the food supply chain. Drivers are entrusted with ensuring that customers receive their orders accurately, safely, and on time while upholding the company’s reputation through professional interactions. This position involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate delivery routes that can be local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, or overnight. Drivers must adhere strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies to maintain safety and compliance.
Employees in this role can expect competitive compensation ranging from $75,000 to $100,000 annually, with uncapped earning potential. Performance Foodservice rewards its drivers with quarterly safety bonuses, unlimited referral bonuses ($2,500 per referral), and a $5,000 sign-on bonus, subject to eligibility criteria. The work schedule is generally a 4- or 5-day week with opportunities for additional days and a maximum of two nights away from home per week. Drivers also receive per diem and overnight compensation, approximately $145, along with access to new equipment. The company extends Day 1 health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and other advantageous programs.
Beyond driving responsibilities, delivery drivers serve as ambassadors of the company, engaging professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Responsibilities include performing mandatory safety inspections and vehicle maintenance checks, ensuring freight is properly loaded and secured, accurately managing delivery documentation, and collecting payments when applicable. Drivers are also expected to perform housekeeping duties related to their equipment and work areas to maintain cleanliness and safety standards. This career offers growth opportunities for individuals passionate about supporting the food distribution network that sustains communities nationwide.
Performance Foodservice is committed to equal employment opportunity and fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace. The company welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and ensures a respectful environment free from discrimination. As part of their dedication to safety and operational excellence, they require all drivers to hold a valid CDL Class A license, meet state licensing requirements, and successfully complete drug tests and background checks. This detailed, safety-focused, and customer-oriented role is integral to the company’s mission of delivering goods efficiently while cultivating enduring customer relationships.
