Job Description
US Foods is one of the largest food distributors in the United States, known for its commitment to excellence, innovation, and promoting from within. With a rich history in the foodservice industry, US Foods delivers high-quality foods and related services to restaurants, healthcare, hospitality, and other foodservice operations. The company prides itself on continuous improvement, excellent training programs, and fostering a culture that supports growth and career advancement for its employees. US Foods emphasizes reliability and integrity in its operations, which has made it a trusted partner in the food distribution world. They offer comprehensive benefits and competitive pay to attract and retain talented professionals who share their dedication to service and community impact.
The US Foods Driver position is a critical role that supports the company’s mission to deliver vital food products to clients throughout the region. Drivers operate trucks on scheduled routes, ensuring timely and safe delivery of food items to customers seven days a week, typically with early morning start times between 3 AM and 6 AM. This position involves significant physical tasks such as unloading products with equipment like pallet jacks or manually, verifying deliveries, handling customer payments if needed, and performing thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. The role requires a strong customer service orientation, as drivers serve as a direct link between US Foods and its clients, aiming to provide an excellent customer experience with professionalism and reliability.
The position demands physical endurance, as drivers frequently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy products weighing between 20 to more than 80 pounds under varying weather conditions. Working in inclement weather and making frequent stops (10 or more per shift) are typical aspects of the job, making it essential for candidates to be adaptable and resilient.
This role requires licensure and compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, including registration with the FMCSA Clearinghouse, a secure database tracking commercial driver licensing and alcohol/drug program violations. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid Class A CDL from their state of residence with applicable endorsements and DOT qualifications. Prior commercial driving experience is necessary, with a minimum of six months in any industry, or three months specifically in food and beverage delivery. The ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle is preferred and may be required depending on location. Fluency in English, adequate communication skills, and the ability to understand and respond to road signs, inquiries, and records are also important.
The US Foods driver role offers competitive compensation ranging from $35.89 to $39.88 per hour, based on experience, skills, education, and location. The position is full-time, with weekly hours between 30 to 70, and provides robust benefits including health insurance, pre-tax spending accounts, retirement plans, paid time off, disability coverage, employee stock purchase options, and life insurance. While the position currently operates in its present location, it is scheduled to relocate to Aurora, Illinois by mid-2026, so candidates should be open to this future change.
Working at US Foods means joining a team that values dedication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to helping both customers and drivers "make it." The company supports its employees with ongoing training, clear career paths, and a total rewards package that honors their hard work and commitment.
