Performance Foodservice, a prominent broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a vital role in supplying food products to an extensive network of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. This company stands out by offering personalized support through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts who foster strong relationships with customers. Their collaborative approach includes advising clients on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and strategic growth, which helps independent restaurant owners and other clients achieve and exceed their business goals. Performance Foodservice is committed to delivering exceptional food products consistently, ensuring high standards in quality and reliability throughout the supply chain.
The company strongly values diversity and inclusivity, adhering strictly to equal employment opportunity (EEO) principles. They offer a workplace environment characterized by respect, recognition, and support for employees from varied backgrounds and experiences. Performance Foodservice also complies with all local, state, and federal laws concerning employee rights and nondiscrimination, emphasizing a culture that nurtures fairness and opportunity for all. In addition, the company provides robust employee benefits and growth opportunities, reinforcing its commitment to workforce development and well-being.
The role of Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice holds critical importance within the food supply chain. These drivers ensure timely and safe transportation of food and related products, maintaining quality during delivery to various customers. The position demands professionalism as drivers regularly interact with customers and vendors, effectively representing the company's values and commitment to service excellence. Drivers operate tractor-trailers or straight trucks on a variety of routes including local, intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight assignments, with some routes involving one to two-day layovers.
Candidates for this role are considered industrial athletes, reflecting the physical nature and demands of the job. Delivery drivers work a 4-5 day workweek with availability required from Monday through Saturday, with dispatch times generally between 3am and 5am. They have the potential to earn upward of $90,000 annually, highlighting the rewarding nature of the position.
Primary responsibilities encompass safety compliance, vehicle inspections, freight management, customer interaction, and administrative duties. Drivers perform pre- and post-trip checks following Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensure freight is properly loaded and secured, and handle all necessary documentation accurately. On delivery, they unload goods, verify deliveries with customers, obtain signatures, and manage any product returns while maintaining secure handling of the tractor, trailer, and freight.
The job requires physical strength for lifting and using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates, with product weights ranging generally between 10 to 35 pounds, occasionally up to 60 to 90 pounds depending on location. Drivers also maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the tractor and loading areas, complete daily logs of hours of service in compliance with federal and state requirements, and exemplify teamwork by assisting where needed to support the company and customer satisfaction.
Performance Foodservice emphasizes a safe and inclusive work environment where employees are appreciated and supported. The company also provides comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness programs, employee stock purchase options, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, among others. This career offers not only competitive compensation but also meaningful work that supports the essential infrastructure of America’s food distribution system, making a valuable difference every day.
