The CDL-A Delivery Driver plays a crucial role within Vistar’s supply chain by ensuring the safe and timely delivery of products to customers. This position involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local runs, over-the-road (OTR) routes, shuttle drives, and overnight routes. Delivery drivers are responsible for unloading and delivering food and food service products, maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and representing the company positively while building lasting relationships with customers. The role generally entails early starts between 3 and 5 am, a 4-5 day workweek, and workdays ranging from 8-12 hours, with no weekends or holiday shifts, making it an appealing and balanced opportunity for CDL-A licensed drivers.
Drivers typically perform 80% pallet drops using electric jacks and lift gates, and occasional overnight stays are required with hotels fully covered by the company as well as per diems and phone allowances provided. Vistar offers competitive hourly pay based on experience and various incentives such as quarterly and yearly safety bonuses that reward safe driving practices. The position demands attention to detail to complete pre- and post-trip inspections, freight checks, accuracy in paper documentation, and secure loading and unloading of cargo.
In addition to offering a safe and inclusive work environment, Vistar emphasizes employee growth and development with opportunities for advancement. The company provides a comprehensive benefits package starting from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401(k) employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. Drivers at Vistar contribute to a vital part of America’s food distribution system, supporting the delivery of essential goods to communities nationwide. This position is ideal for motivated commercial drivers who value safety, customer service, and reliability in their professional roles.
