Job Description

Schwend is a well-established, family-owned transportation company that has been serving the agricultural freight sector since 1976. Founded by Charles and Judi Schwend, the company has grown steadily over nearly five decades to become a trusted name in dry bulk product hauling across the Southeastern United States. Currently led by Jeff Schwend, the son of the founders, the company prides itself on a culture of strong leadership, commitment to safety, and delivering exceptional service to its dedicated customer base. Schwend operates four terminals located strategically in Dade City FL, Tampa FL, Jasper TN, and Elko GA, enabling extensive coverage primarily throughout the Southeast and some surrounding states. Their fleet consists of modern Volvo and Kenworth automatic trucks from model years 2013 and newer, designed to provide reliable and efficient transportation of agricultural products. The company takes pride in maintaining a driver-friendly approach with policies such as no passenger seats in trucks, ensuring safety and focus for their professional drivers. Schwend specializes in hauling dry bulk agricultural materials including calcium, salt, phosphate, and clay, in addition to some food-grade products like flour and malt. Their commitment to quality and service excellence has established them as a leader in the agricultural freight hauling industry.

The role of the CDL A Pneumatic Driver at Schwend is a critical position that involves operating trucks equipped for pneumatic trailer hauling of dry bulk and food-grade agricultural products. This full-time, dedicated driving role offers competitive compensation starting at 22% of the gross load at the end of the first year, progressing to 23% and 24% over the second year. Drivers can expect a gross weekly average income ranging between $1300 and $1800, complemented by deadhead miles pay, per ton offload pay, and nightly plus weekend per diem allowances. Weekly paychecks with a transparent pay week running Sunday through Saturday underscore Schwend's commitment to timely remuneration. The role requires a valid Class A CDL and a TWIC card endorsement, as well as at least two years of tractor-trailer driving experience within the last four years. Drivers benefit from paid training while hauling with a trainer, ongoing support, and a company culture that values professionalism and safety. This position offers an excellent combination of steady work, lucrative pay, and comprehensive benefits including vacation time increasing with tenure, health insurance, retirement plans, bonuses, and a referral program. Dedicated drivers who desire to work in a family-oriented company with a strong reputation and modern equipment will find Schwend to be an attractive employment opportunity.
