Job Description

Marriott International is a leading global hospitality company known for its exceptional service, diverse portfolio of renowned brands, and commitment to creating memorable experiences for guests around the world. Among its luxury offerings, JW Marriott stands out as a premium brand that emphasizes holistic well-being, innovation, and a community-driven workplace culture. JW Marriott hotels are located in gateway cities and distinctive resort locations, offering associates a unique opportunity to grow professionally in an environment that values diversity and inclusion. Marriott International is an equal opportunity employer, actively fostering a welcoming workplace where associates' unique backgrounds and talents are celebrated. The company is dedicated to non-discrimination on any protected basis, including disability and veteran status.

This role is based at the JW Marriott located at 1777 Walker St, Houston, Texas. It is a full-time, management position in the Sales and Marketing category, offering a competitive hourly pay range of $26.44 to $34.62, with eligibility for bonuses. The position is not remote, requiring a physical presence at the property's location.

The role of Managing Sales Activities for the JW Marriott in Houston focuses primarily on handling social and local corporate catering opportunities that exceed the usual scope of the Group Sales teams, typically events with 150 guests or more. As a key member of the sales office, the candidate will be responsible for contracting, closing, and ensuring a seamless turnover of catering business to the operations team for quality service delivery. The position requires a strategic approach to achieve catering revenue goals by actively up-selling each business opportunity and driving customer loyalty through exceptional service delivery.

Key responsibilities include managing the sales efforts for local corporate and social catering, responding efficiently to incoming catering inquiries, and soliciting new business opportunities. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of the market, including competitor analysis, economic trends, and demand-supply dynamics, allowing the manager to close on the best opportunities effectively.

This role also involves creative sales activities such as designing and developing unique catered events, maximizing revenue through innovative food and beverage packages, and managing both catering sales revenue and operations budgets. The candidate will contribute to menu development focused on sales growth and assist in implementing catering promotions that align with Marriott’s customer service and brand standards.

Collaboration plays a vital role in this position, as it requires coordination with off-property sales teams, kitchen staff, vendors, competitors, catering associations, and other hotel departments to sustain high guest satisfaction levels. Maintaining exemplary customer service standards before, during, and after events is crucial to fostering long-term customer loyalty and satisfaction.

The candidate must be adept at building relationships, understanding customer needs, and delivering tailored solutions that exceed expectations, thereby strengthening Marriott’s brand loyalty. A close working relationship with operations personnel is essential to implement sales strategies effectively at the property level.

Overall, this sales management position at JW Marriott Houston offers an exciting opportunity to thrive in a luxury hospitality environment where associates are cared for, professional development is encouraged, and delivering wonderful hospitality is a daily commitment. Joining JW Marriott means becoming part of a global team dedicated to excellence, innovation, and community, where you can truly become the best version of yourself.
