Job Description

Modern Catering is a vibrant and innovative catering and event company dedicated to delivering exceptional culinary experiences for a wide range of events. Based in Colorado, Modern Catering has established itself as a premier provider of catering services for weddings, corporate functions, nonprofit galas, and social gatherings across the Front Range. The company prides itself on its commitment to quality, creativity, and outstanding customer service, making every event memorable and flawlessly executed. With over 500 events served annually, Modern Catering emphasizes fresh ingredients, custom menu design, and exceptional hospitality to ensure client satisfaction and event success.

The Event Chef role at Modern Catering is an exciting opportunity for a culinary professional who is passionate about food execution and event service. This position is responsible for leading the culinary execution at a variety of catered events throughout the Front Range area. The Event Chef ensures that all food is prepared, presented, and served according to Modern Catering’s high standards, maintaining quality, efficiency, and professionalism in every aspect of the culinary presentation.

Working closely with the culinary team, event coordinators, event managers, and service staff, the Event Chef plays a critical role in creating cohesive and seamless dining experiences. The scope of this role includes the preparation and cooking of menu items according to approved recipes and event specifications, as well as the execution of different service styles including buffets, plated dinners, stations, and cocktail receptions at off-site venues. Adaptability is key, as the Event Chef must respond effectively to any changes during events while maintaining a consistent and professional approach.

In addition to culinary skills, the role demands strong leadership and team management abilities. The Event Chef leads and supervises cooks, prep staff, and kitchen assistants on-site during events. Responsibilities include delegating tasks, ensuring a well-organized kitchen workflow, training and mentoring staff on preparation techniques, plating standards, and service expectations. The Event Chef also assists with the logistical aspects of event setup, including loading, transporting, and organizing food, equipment, and supplies, setting up on-site kitchens, and coordinating closely with Event Coordinators and Front-of-House staff to ensure smooth event operations.

Food quality and safety are of paramount importance. The Event Chef strictly adheres to food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations. Proper food handling, labeling, storage, and temperature control must be maintained throughout event preparation and service. Additionally, the Event Chef is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment during events to uphold Modern Catering’s standards.

Collaboration is another essential element of the role. The Event Chef works in close partnership with the Executive Chef and culinary leadership to effectively execute menus and event plans. Clear communication with service staff is crucial to coordinate timing for service and courses, ensuring a smooth dining experience for guests. Post-event feedback and continuous improvement of operations and menu execution are also key parts of the Event Chef’s responsibilities.

This position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $23 to $28, reflecting experience and skill level. It requires availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules, emphasizing the dynamic and flexible nature of the catering industry. When joining Modern Catering as an Event Chef, candidates become part of a dedicated team passionate about culinary creativity and exceptional event delivery with a strong focus on client satisfaction and operational excellence.
