This role of Director of Events is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the entire spectrum of the hotel’s Events and Banquet Departments. The successful candidate will manage business generation efforts for corporate events, weddings, receptions, and various social functions. This role requires a strategic mindset with a focus on achieving established financial goals while ensuring excellent guest experiences. The Director of Events is pivotal in coordinating procedures between departments such as Food & Beverage, Banquets, and Catering, thereby ensuring seamless event execution from contract negotiation through to event completion.

Key responsibilities include negotiating contracts with entertainment providers, coordinating logistics with support teams, and driving sales revenue by promoting event services. The Director will also host client meetings and hotel tours to discuss and strategize event goals and expectations. Leadership and staff management are fundamental aspects of this position, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and fostering a cooperative team environment. This role demands strong knowledge of hotel operations, excellent guest relations skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.

To excel in this position, the Director must possess thorough knowledge of catering services, food service techniques, and cost control measures. Advanced skills in sales and marketing strategies, financial management, and communication are essential. Familiarity with federal and state health laws and safety codes is also required to maintain compliance and uphold the hotel’s operational standards. The ideal candidate usually comes with a robust background of five or more years in a similar event management or catering leadership role within a comparable upscale hospitality environment.

The role offers a dynamic work environment where the Candidate will experience both indoor and outdoor settings with varying noise and temperature levels. The physical demands include the ability to lift moderately heavy items and endure prolonged periods of standing or movement. This role reports directly to the Director of Food and Beverage and supervises Catering Managers and Banquets Manager.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate
  • minimum five years experience as Director of Events, Catering, or similar position in a 4-star hotel or restaurant
  • possession of valid Liquor Commission Manager’s Card
  • ability to lift items up to 25 lbs
  • ability to reach overhead
  • ability to endure various physical movements throughout work areas
  • ability to maintain stationary position for extended hours
  • familiarity with hotel services, catering, and food service techniques
  • strong multi-tasking ability

Job Duties

  • anticipates guests’ needs

  • develop and coordinate successful implementation of all special events and hotel social events

  • drive sales revenue from soliciting and coordinating corporate events, weddings, receptions, and social celebrations
  • facilitate meetings and tours of facilities with customers
  • work cooperatively with F&B and Executive management to maintain service standards
  • review guarantees and ensure estimate cost compliance
  • maintain accurate records of client communications and BEOs
  • develop action plans to exceed financial and service goals
  • administer corrective actions to meet goals
  • promote conference/event services by attending professional meetings
  • develop networking opportunities and facilitate meetings with prospective clients
  • review daily hotel activities including forecasts and events
  • establish priorities and assign production to staff
  • review status of business and bookings
  • establish departmental policies and procedures
  • direct financial operations and promotional material dissemination
  • foster cooperative and safe working climate
  • coordinate recruitment and conduct interviews
  • establish individual goals and conduct staff evaluations
  • attend all management meetings and training
  • perform other duties as assigned
