Job Description

Canyon Catering & Special Events, an esteemed catering and special event company in Southern California, is seeking a talented and passionate Catering and Event Sales Planner to join their team. The company values dedicated staff and is an equal opportunity employer, offering part-time on-call positions with evening and weekend event work at various locations such as private homes and venues.

Job Requirements

  • enjoys food, people, and conversation
  • ability to create a fun, good-hearted work environment while executing successful events
  • knowledgeable of food service styles, as well as Food Health and Safety Standards
  • two-plus years' experience in events and venue sales in the event planning industry
  • experience planning events for 10-500 guests
  • ability to work directly with clients and ensure all client requests are met
  • able to work nights and weekends as required
  • willingness to attend networking, educational, and social functions to increase visibility and sales
  • willingness to bring in new business, make contracts, sales, and promote the brand represented
  • establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key community and strategic partners for maximum exposure
  • coordinate details of various events including weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, charity events, trade shows, sales meetings, business meetings, employee appreciation events, and tenant appreciation events
  • conduct in-house tastings for social events prior to booking
  • computer skills and experience involving invoicing, proposals, deposits, BEO's, and equipment pull sheets including all necessary event paperwork
  • Caterease knowledge preferred
  • ability to calculate budgets, analyze, and make adjustments when necessary
  • work collaboratively with internal departments including staffing, operations, and culinary
  • perform accounting duties such as invoice processing, vendor payments, and receipt collection
  • understand various contracts such as customer, vendor, and venue agreements
  • ability to achieve sales goals
  • knowledgeable in workings of banquet facilities, floor plans, room set up, planning and executing events
  • manage staff responsible for event coordinator activities
  • possess professional, detail-oriented, multitasking, time management, and deadline-oriented skills
  • provide Staffing Manager with Event Staffing needs in a timely manner
  • ensure staff is adequately prepared for events
  • strong ability to analyze and evaluate overall event performance.
