Job Description
The City of San Marcos, located in the heart of Texas, is a vibrant community noted for its commitment to providing exceptional services to its residents while maintaining a high quality of life. San Marcos is not only a hub for business, industry, education, retail, and government, but it also prides itself on fostering a thriving economy with a diverse job market and numerous growth opportunities. The city government actively collaborates with community partners to ensure the city remains a thriving, job-producing environment that serves all its citizens effectively. This dedication to excellence and community involvement makes San Marcos an ideal place for career development and public service.
Within this dynamic city environment, the City of San Marcos is seeking a dedicated Cashier/Pool Attendant for its summer aquatics program at the Rio Vista Pool. This full-time position offers an hourly wage of $14.00 and is integral to the successful operation of the pool during the busy seasonal months. The role is designed to blend customer service with operational duties, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all patrons. The Cashier/Pool Attendant will be responsible for managing front desk operations, including collecting admission fees and handling payments, which requires accuracy and basic math skills. This position supports the enforcement of facility rules and ensures a welcoming, safe environment for visitors. The attendant will maintain cleanliness in and around the pool area, contributing directly to health and safety standards.
The 2026 operational season runs from May 23 through September 6, with specific schedules for opening weekend, regular weeks, and weekend-only periods later in the summer. This schedule requires flexibility, including working on holidays and holiday weekends where applicable. As a critical front-line staff member, the Cashier/Pool Attendant will also participate in training sessions and staff meetings to stay current on procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The ability to communicate effectively, provide excellent customer service, and remain calm under pressure is essential. In addition to technical and customer-service responsibilities, the role requires physical stamina to work outdoors under variable weather conditions, exposure to chemicals typical of pool maintenance, and the ability to handle various physical tasks.
The City of San Marcos values its employees and offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to promote a healthy work-life balance and personal growth. Benefits include retirement options through Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS), an optional 457-deferred compensation plan and Roth IRA through Mission Square Retirement Corporation, an employee assistance program, activity center membership, and direct deposit. These benefits underscore the city's commitment to total rewards strategies that provide competitive compensation and support employee well-being.
Overall, the Cashier/Pool Attendant role at the Rio Vista Pool is a rewarding opportunity for individuals seeking meaningful seasonal employment that combines customer interaction, operational task management, and safety enforcement in a community-focused environment. Embracing this position means contributing to a positive guest experience at one of San Marcos' key recreational facilities while gaining valuable skills in customer service and operational support.
