The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation traces its roots back many centuries to a community of people who lived together as a tribe, engaging in farming, hunting, and fishing to sustain their livelihood. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Coffee Barista to join our team. This hourly position offers the opportunity to become part of a vibrant community that takes pride in delivering outstanding service. The role is centered around preparing specialty coffee, beverages, and food items while ensuring high standards of hygiene and customer satisfaction. The Coffee Barista will have direct interaction with guests, taking and serving orders promptly, handling cash transactions responsibly, and maintaining a clean and well-organized work area.

The ideal candidate should have previous experience in coffee preparation, food service, cash handling, and guest service. Key responsibilities include following precise production sheets and recipes for food and beverages, replenishing and rotating food products to ensure freshness, and adhering to safety and sanitation protocols. The role requires good communication skills in English and the ability to interact effectively with team members and a diverse guest base. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and working in a sometimes fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Job Duties

  • Provides guests with service by acknowledging and welcoming guests, promptly taking and serving orders, preparing food products following production sheets and recipes, pouring, mixing, blending, reheating and portioning as appropriate, responding to guest requests, and collecting and processing payment and returning change following established procedures
  • Maintains safe and sanitary area by checking coffee and food products for appropriate temperature and freshness, replenishing and rotating food items as necessary, following correct cooling and storage procedures, cleaning coffee equipment and surrounding areas, and organizing workstation according to established procedures
  • Provides accounting of transactions during shift by entering cash transactions into point of sale system, counting currency, logging guest discounts, VIP points and credit cards on to cashier drop work sheet, balancing money drawer against generated cashier report following established procedures, and reporting discrepancies to the supervisor or food and beverage management team
  • Ensures work area is stocked and clean by submitting supply requisitions, placing delivered beverages, food and supplies in designated areas, replenishing condiments and supplies, and cleaning shelves, guests' tables, chairs, and surrounding areas
