As an entity within an academic environment, Campus Dining and Shops plays a vital role in enhancing the campus experience by ensuring that its dining facilities are welcoming, efficient, and compliant with health and safety regulations. The organization operates various food service units across campus, catering to a diverse community with differing needs and preferences. The work culture at Campus Dining and Shops values professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to quality service. This is reflected in their hiring policies, which emphasize inclusion, equal opportunity, and adherence to labor regulations and union contracts. The role of Cashier/Barista at Campus Dining and Shops is multifaceted, involving cash handling, food preparation, customer interaction, and maintaining cleanliness within a high-volume dining environment. This position requires an individual who can perform efficiently under pressure while maintaining a cheerful and professional attitude. Key responsibilities include handling student meal cards, cash transactions, and credit card payments accurately, and following established merchandising and cash policies. The Cashier/Barista is also responsible for preparing select food items and specialty coffee drinks using espresso machines when required. An emphasis on speed, accuracy, and excellent customer service is essential, as these employees are often the first point of contact for customers. The job also demands physical stamina to endure an active work environment that involves standing for long periods, handling kitchen hazards, and occasionally lifting heavy objects. Attention to hygiene and appearance is mandatory, reflecting the organization's standards and regulations. Starting pay for this hourly, non-exempt role begins at $16.81 per hour, and employees are subject to union contract terms regarding wage scales and work conditions. Overall, this role offers a dynamic and engaging work environment for candidates interested in food service and customer-facing roles within a collegiate setting, supported by comprehensive benefits and union representation.
