Job Requirements
- High school education preferred
- successful completion of apprenticeship or training program
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages and ratios
- able to complete required reports including daily sales and inventory counts
- ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word
- able to read, write and understand English language instructions
- able to sit, stand and use hands regularly
- able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- able to climb ladders and perform housekeeping tasks
- able to tolerate dust, chemical fumes and work with fresh produce
- able to respond quickly to emergencies
- able to memorize weekly ad prices and daily specials
- able to work in refrigerated and heated environments
- able to maintain a neat appearance
Job Qualifications
- High school education preferred
- successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program
- equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
- ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, and ratios
- proficiency in basic algebra for handling sales transactions
- ability to complete reports including sales, inventory, receiving logs, and cash reconciliation
- effective communication skills including hearing, speaking, and understanding spoken word
- ability to read, write, and analyze English language documents and instructions
Job Duties
- Greet all customers and provide prompt and courteous assistance
- adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
- manage cash drawer contents at the start and end of shifts
- ensure cashier accountability for over/shorts of till
- scan or record customer purchases accurately and efficiently
- assist customers with bulk products
- collect payments and tender change according to company policies
- process various sales transactions including authorized accounts receivable, EFT, WIC coupons, food stamps, manufacturer coupons, and gift certificates
- bag or package merchandise per company procedures
- handle damaged or spoiled products following company policy
- ring all sales into cash register in accordance with cash handling procedures
- verify customer IDs and follow store policies for checks and alcoholic beverage sales
- report irregularities or discrepancies exceeding $5 in cash
- record price discrepancies and request price checks on electronic systems
- maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards
- keep checkout, sales and storage areas clean and orderly
- use and maintain equipment properly and report malfunctions
- adhere to policy on cash amounts and pickups
- observe security standards and report abnormal behavior
- secure register when unattended
- notify management of personnel issues or policy violations
- perform other work-related duties as assigned
- assist in training associates and maintain good communications
- comply with safety policies and maintain neat appearance
