Job Requirements

  • High school education preferred with apprenticeship or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages and ratios
  • Ability to complete required reports including daily sales and cash reconciliation
  • Ability to hear, speak and understand spoken requests
  • Ability to read, write, analyze and understand English
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, use hands frequently
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to adjust vision focus
  • Capability to climb ladders and perform housekeeping duties
  • Must be able to work with produce and plants without allergic reactions
  • Able to tolerate dust and chemical fumes
  • Memory retention for weekly ad prices and produce specials
  • Comfortable with exposure to refrigerated and heated environments
  • Must comply with safety policies
  • Maintain neat personal appearance
  • Must be able to pass required drug tests
  • Must verify legal eligibility to work in the US

Job Qualifications

  • High school education preferred
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or training program preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, and ratios
  • Ability to complete reports including daily sales, inventory counts, and cash reconciliation
  • Effective communication skills including ability to hear, speak and understand
  • Proficient reading, writing, analyzing, and understanding of English for instructions and documents
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and customer service standards
  • Experience working in retail or supermarket environment is beneficial

Job Duties

  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • Responsibility of cash drawer contents in both the start and end of the actual work shift
  • Cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
  • Scan or record the purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • Be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between various types of produce merchandise
  • Assist customers with bulk products that they may have difficulty handling
  • Collect money in the form of cash or checks from customers and tender accurate change in accordance with company policies
  • Process various sales transactions such as Accounts Receivable sales, EFT, WIC Coupons, Food Stamps, manufacturers' coupons, and gift certificates
  • Bag or package merchandise according to established company procedures
  • Handle damaged or spoiled products and return to stocks per company policy
  • Ring sales into cash register according to cash handling procedures
  • Verify all customer IDs presented and observe policies for checks and alcoholic beverage sales
  • Notify management of any cash variations exceeding $5
  • Record price discrepancies and request price checks as needed
  • Maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards
  • Assist in keeping checkout, sales and storage areas clean and orderly
  • Use and maintain equipment in good working order and report malfunctions
  • Follow company policy on excessive cash and perform cash pickups
  • Observe security standards and report abnormal behavior
  • Secure register when unattended
  • Notify department manager of personnel or policy issues affecting operations
  • Perform any other work-related duties assigned
  • Assist in training associates and coworkers
  • Maintain good communication within the department
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance and observe dress regulations
