Job Requirements
- High school education preferred with successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
- ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, ratios, and apply basic algebra for handling sales transactions and verifying vendor invoice charges
- ability to accurately complete required reports including daily sales, inventory counts, receiving logs, and cash accountability forms
- ability to hear, speak and understand spoken English to respond promptly to customer requests and communications
- ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand English language for following instructions, company policies, procedures and job-related documents
- ability to sit, stand, and use hands to handle tools or objects
- ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- sufficient physical mobility and agility to climb ladders, sweep, mop floors, dust shelves and carry out trash
- ability to tolerate moderate exposure to dust and chemical fumes from cleaning agents
- ability to work in refrigerated or heated environments
- memory retention to memorize weekly ad prices and daily specials
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- prior cash handling or cashier experience preferred
- strong numerical and communication skills
- customer service experience preferred
- familiarity with grocery or retail environments advantageous
- ability to learn and operate electronic point-of-sale systems

Job Duties
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
- adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
- responsibility of cash drawer contents in both the start and end of the actual work shift
- cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
- scan or record the purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately
- be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between all types of produce merchandise carried in the store
- assist customers with bulk products that they may have difficulty in handling
- collect money from customers and tender accurate change according to company policies
- process various types of sales transactions including Accounts Receivable, EFT transactions, WIC Coupons, Food Stamps, manufacturer’s coupons, and gift certificates
- bag or package merchandise according to company policies
- handle damaged or spoiled products and return-to-stocks according to policy
- ring all sales into cash register in accordance with cash handling procedures
- verify all customer IDs and observe store policies on acceptance of checks and sale of alcoholic beverages
- notify management promptly of any discrepancies if cash variations exceed $5
- record any price discrepancies and request price checks on not on file items
- maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards
- assist in keeping all checkout, sales and storage areas clean and orderly
- use and maintain equipment properly and report malfunctions
- adhere to company policies on excessive cash in registers and perform cash pickups
- observe security standards and report abnormal customer behavior
- secure register when unattended
- notify department manager of personnel issues or policy violations
- perform other work-related duties as assigned
