Job Description

JCPenney is a well-established retail company with a rich history spanning over 120 years, widely recognized as a trusted shopping destination for American families. The company is known for its inclusive approach and commitment to providing quality products that meet everyday needs and special occasions alike. JCPenney’s extensive product range includes fashion apparel, home goods, beauty products, and jewelry, featuring a mix of national and private brands. Beyond merchandise, the company also offers personal services like salon, portrait, and optical to enhance the customer shopping experience. JCPenney operates over 650 stores across the U.S. and Puerto Rico and maintains a strong online presence through jcp.com, catering to customers who prefer shopping in various ways. With a workforce of approximately 50,000 associates worldwide, JCPenney invests in fostering community engagement and evolving with changing retail trends while holding on to its legacy as an iconic American brand.

The role of a Cashier at JCPenney is pivotal in shaping the customer sales and service experience at the store level. As a Cashier, you will be responsible for upholding checkout standards, managing returns and re-ticketing, and assisting with merchandising at the point of sale, including impulse fixtures. This role also involves supporting general operations such as omnichannel efforts that facilitate a seamless shopping experience across digital and physical platforms, as well as helping with recovery tasks, inventory management, and maintaining fitting rooms. Performance standards are crucial in this role, especially concerning company initiatives on shrink (loss prevention) and safety, along with meeting sales, customer service, productivity, and attendance goals.

The Cashier position requires a proactive attitude and a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service. You will greet and assist customers enthusiastically, help them navigate credit, rewards, and gift card programs, and promote sales initiatives like Findmore to enhance customer engagement. The role demands teamwork, as you will often partner with colleagues for additional support during busy periods. Successfully meeting company expectations means not only executing checkout operations efficiently but also embodying core competencies such as problem-solving, accountability, and ownership of your work and customer outcomes. You are expected to operate with energy, urgency, and a continuous drive to improve the customer experience.

JCPenney offers competitive compensation for this role with hourly pay ranging from $12.00 to $15.00 per hour. Additionally, associates have access to a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision coverage, term life insurance, paid vacation and holidays, and participation in a 401(k) plan with company match. The company also provides an associate discount on merchandise, and holiday work is compensated at an enhanced rate. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking meaningful employment at a company with a long-standing reputation and a focus on inclusive retailing and community connection.
