Job Description

The City of Live Oak, Texas, is a vibrant community dedicated to providing excellent public services and recreational programs for its residents and visitors. Known for its commitment to fostering a welcoming and safe environment, the city offers various recreational facilities, including swimming pools, parks, and community centers. The Parks and Recreation Department plays a crucial role in managing these amenities and organizing events that promote community engagement and healthy lifestyles. Seasonal employment opportunities are an integral part of the department’s efforts to serve the public, particularly during the busy summer months when pool facilities experience high demand. These seasonal roles provide valuable experience for individuals interested in community service, recreation management, and customer relations within a municipal setting.

The City of Live Oak is currently seeking dedicated and responsible individuals to join their team as Pool Cashiers on a seasonal basis. This position operates under the direction of the Recreation and Special Events Manager and the Head Lifeguard, with a primary focus on customer service and the smooth operation of the pool admission process. As a Pool Cashier, employees are responsible for managing the cash register, collecting fees for pool admissions and season passes, and maintaining positive public relations at the city pool. This role is essential in ensuring that patrons have a safe and enjoyable experience while visiting the pool facility.

Pool Cashiers play a vital role in upholding city policies and pool regulations, helping to maintain a safe environment for all visitors. They are expected to communicate effectively with the public and staff, identify and report any behavior or attire that violates pool rules, and assist in the opening and closing of the pool facility, including cleaning duties. The position requires handling cash transactions accurately and tactfully dealing with diverse groups of people. Employees in this role must demonstrate cooperative behavior with their team, supervisors, and the public, ensuring a harmonious and efficient workplace.

This seasonal position typically runs from May through August, with work schedules that may include holidays, weekends, mornings, days, and evenings for up to 40 hours per week. Weekly hours vary based on the pool’s operation needs and are not guaranteed, offering flexibility for those seeking temporary employment during the summer. The hourly wage starts at $14.50, depending on experience, and there are additional incentive pay opportunities for new and returning staff, rewarding employees for their commitment and successful completion of the summer season. This makes the Pool Cashier position an attractive option for students, retirees, or anyone looking to earn extra income and gain valuable experience in a community-oriented role.

Overall, the Pool Cashier position with the City of Live Oak embodies not only the practical responsibilities of managing pool admissions and cash handling but also emphasizes customer service excellence, safety enforcement, and teamwork. It’s an opportunity to contribute positively to the community while developing skills in public interaction, problem-solving, and facility maintenance within a supportive and dynamic municipal environment.
