The Food Service Cashier role at DCH Health System plays a crucial part in supporting the nutritional services department by providing excellent customer service and maintaining efficient food sales operations within cafeteria and food service areas such as the Patio Grille. The primary responsibility of the role involves accurately entering food items selected by patrons into the point of sale (POS) system, handling customer charge information and cash transactions, and issuing receipts. This position also assists in the preparation and portioning of simple food items, helps serve food, and maintains cleanliness and order in both the server and dining areas. The role requires strong attention to detail, customer service skills, and the ability to work variable shifts to meet operational needs. This position demands adherence to the DCH Health System and Nutritional Services policies and procedures to ensure compliance and support the organization’s standards for patient and employee satisfaction as well as financial performance. Job Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- previous experience in cashier or food service is preferred
- must have basic math skills for handling cash transactions
- must be able to stand for extended periods
- must be able to communicate effectively with customers and team members
- must be able to maintain cleanliness and adhere to food safety standards
- must be reliable and punctual
- must be able to follow instructions and work independently when necessary
Job Qualifications
- Must be efficient in using imaging equipment and office equipment relevant to the area
- must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English
- must fulfill graduation and registration requirements as applicable
- must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals

Job Duties
- Receives change fund and performs cashier duties
- turns funds and change fund into the responsible supervisor at the end of the shift
- completes all required records and receipts in accordance with policies
- enters food items selected by patrons into the POS system
- collects payment from customers and makes change if appropriate
- gives customers receipts
- ensures all cash and sales records are secured
- assists with simple food preparation, baking, set up and service of foods
- maintains cleanliness of work and dining areas
- assists with cleaning in the Patio Grille and other assigned areas
- adheres to all DCH Health System and Nutritional Services policies and procedures
- performs duties during variable shifts as required
