The Retail Associate role at Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay is an essential frontline position within their retail stores, primarily focused on delivering exceptional customer service and supporting the overall store operations to enhance the customer experience and drive sales. This full-time position involves operating the Point of Sale (POS) system responsibly, handling all forms of payment, and encouraging cash donations to support Goodwill's community programs. The Retail Associate works closely with the rest of the store team to maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked sales floors by following established standards and picture process maps. They engage customers warmly, greet them upon entry, and thank them upon departure, embodying Goodwill's core values during every interaction.

In addition to transaction processing, the Retail Associate takes responsibility for accurately pricing merchandise by identifying goods through markings or consulting with on-site leadership when necessary. Closing procedures and regular attendance are critical to ensure smooth daily operations and uphold safety and presentation standards. This role also requires communication via paging systems and phones to assist in coordinating in-store activities. The position calls for a candidate who is at least 18 years old, has a high school education or equivalent experience, and possesses strong customer service and math skills, with proficiency in English for both written and verbal communication.

Job Duties

  • Performs point of sale (POS) responsibilities and processes all forms of payments
  • Asks each customer for cash donations at POS
  • Establishes or identifies prices of goods via the type of merchandise, identifying markings, or asking for help from an on-site leader
  • Completes closing procedures, as necessary
  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance
  • Greets customers that enter in the store and thanks customers leaving the establishment
  • Maintains sales floor by following floorwork and PPM (picture process map) standards
  • Stocks merchandise in appropriate area as assigned
  • Utilizes systems, including phones and paging systems to make regularly scheduled announcements
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned
