Job Description

Bass Pro Shops is a renowned outdoor retail company specializing in hunting, fishing, camping, and related outdoor recreational gear and apparel. Established as a leader in the outdoor industry, Bass Pro Shops serves millions of customers annually through its expansive network of retail locations across the United States and Canada. The company is known for its immersive store environments that offer a unique shopping experience, combining retail with education and conservation efforts. Bass Pro Shops pursues an inclusive and dynamic workplace culture, fostering diversity, equal opportunity, and support for employees' growth and well-being.

The company is currently seeking motivated and customer-focused individuals to join their team as Part-Time Cashiers. This position offers a starting pay rate ranging between $17.13 and $18.75 per hour. Part-time employees enjoy a variety of attractive benefits including dental and vision insurance, voluntary benefits, 401k retirement savings, paid holidays, paid vacation, employee discounts on retail merchandise as well as on restaurants and world-class resorts, and access to the Bass Pro Cares Fund among others.

The Cashier plays a vital role in ensuring outstanding customer service and a seamless shopping experience. In this role, the primary responsibility is to accurately and efficiently check out customers' merchandise using the Point of Sale (POS) register system. The Cashier is also expected to greet and acknowledge all customers in a prompt and friendly manner, assist shoppers with product questions or recommendations, and maintain product knowledge to provide informed assistance. Beyond the register, cashiers help maintain the store’s appearance by stocking and straightening shelves and pegs in their vicinity when not actively processing transactions.

Customer service is at the heart of the role, requiring the Cashier to support a strong commitment to world-class service standards and contribute positively to each customer's visit. Specifically, Cashiers are expected to approach customers in an outgoing manner, identify and evaluate the customers’ needs, make product recommendations accordingly, and promote company programs such as the CLUB Membership, Voice of Customer (VOC) surveys, and In-Store Pick-up services. This proactive engagement helps foster loyalty and enhances the overall shopping experience, aligning with Bass Pro Shops’ dedication to legendary customer interaction.

This position does require physical activity, including constant standing or walking during shifts, occasionally ascending or descending ladders or stairs, and frequent handling of merchandise that can weigh up to 20 pounds, with occasional lifts exceeding 50 pounds utilizing team lifts. Additionally, Cashiers must be comfortable working in various environmental conditions such as low or high temperatures and noisy settings, sometimes outdoors.

Candidates for this role must possess a high school diploma or equivalent experience, with skills in basic arithmetic to calculate discounts and make change accurately. Communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively within a team and with management. The ideal Cashier will be reliable, approachable, professional, and detail-oriented, with the ability to operate computerized Point of Sale systems efficiently. Independent judgment is exercised within established guidelines to solve routine issues and contribute suggestions for improving store procedures and policies.

Bass Pro Shops is an equal opportunity employer. They provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities during the application process and employment as mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Interested applicants needing accommodations may contact the company for assistance. This role offers a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about customer service, outdoor recreation, and working in a dynamic retail environment that values teamwork and community involvement.
