Job Description
SpartanNash is a prominent food solutions company that operates as a distributor, wholesaler, and retailer with a vast global supply chain network serving customers across all 50 states in the U.S. As a member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, SpartanNash specializes in distributing grocery and household products including fresh produce and the popular Our Family® product portfolio. The company caters to a diverse customer base including national accounts, independent and chain grocers, e-commerce retailers, U.S. military commissaries and exchanges, as well as SpartanNash's own brick-and-mortar grocery stores, pharmacies, and fuel centers. SpartanNash is known for its dynamic team culture comprised of employees from various departments such as bakery managers, IT developers, vice presidents of finance, HR business partners, and export specialists who all contribute to creating exceptional customer experiences.
The company is currently seeking dedicated Cashiers to join their team at the location in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Cashier position is pivotal to ensuring efficient front-end operations and providing outstanding customer service. Responsibilities include operating cash registers and electronic scanners to accurately itemize and total customers' purchases, processing various types of financial transactions, and assisting customers with bagging their purchases. Cashiers handle a broad range of products such as dry groceries, frozen foods, dairy, fresh produce, poultry, fish, and meat products including beef and pork.
Cashiers at SpartanNash are responsible for understanding and using check-stand equipment efficiently, including register, scanner, scale, and belts. They perform front-end merchandising duties to maintain product displays of newspapers, periodicals, and candy, ensuring visual appeal and correct product placement. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of pricing, product locations, and current store programs such as loyalty programs, coupons, and in-store specials is essential to facilitate smooth checkout experiences. Employees must comply with company policies related to security, cash handling, product handling (such as managing damaged or spoiled items), and regulations concerning the sale of restricted items like alcohol and tobacco.
This role demands attention to detail, a strong customer focus, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards. Cashiers may also assist with stocking items and are expected to follow all personal protective equipment (PPE), safety guidelines, food safety, cleaning standards, and guest experience criteria. Flexibility is key, as cashiers might be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer service needs. SpartanNash prioritizes a People First culture, emphasizing associate development, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging for all employees.
The employment is based at the 2103 Parkview Ave location, Kalamazoo, Michigan. The physical requirements for this role include standing and walking for extended periods, lifting up to 30 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 50 pounds, and the ability to bend, stoop, twist, and turn. Working conditions include exposure to typical retail environments with varied temperatures and moderate noise levels. Travel requirements may vary depending on assignment. SpartanNash offers a competitive and robust Total Rewards benefits package. The company is committed to equal employment opportunities for all individuals, including veterans and people with disabilities, and fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace environment. Note that SpartanNash does not sponsor work visas for this position.
