The role of Cashier at the University of Texas at Tyler is a part-time position with a pay range between $13 and $15.05 per hour. It offers varying shifts with a preference for open availability, providing flexibility to fit different schedules. The cashier will be entrusted with handling cash and credit transactions efficiently and accurately within retail food service settings. This job demands strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple transactions while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor.
As part of the retail operation team, the Cashier will operate the cash register/point of sale systems, manage payments, and ensure the security of cash during shifts. Additional responsibilities include supporting the operation by helping with setup, maintaining stock and supplies, conducting cleanup, and participating in closing duties. Physical demands include standing or walking for extended periods, bending, lifting, and mobility throughout a shift, which may exceed eight hours. Candidates should be prepared to engage in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where teamwork and reliability are key. Some locations may require alcohol service certification, and candidates must adhere to local regulations regarding alcohol service age.
Beyond the immediate duties, Sodexo fosters a supportive work environment that encourages growth and learning. Employees have access to ongoing development opportunities, which can transform part-time work into a meaningful career path. Benefits include paid time off, medical and dental insurance, vision care, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) plans, and various discount programs. Additionally, some locations offer perks like free meals during shifts, uniforms, safety shoes, transportation assistance, and parking. Sodexo recognizes the importance of work-life balance and strives to provide a workplace where individuals feel valued, heard, and empowered.
Overall, the Cashier role offers more than just employment; it offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to a community of learners and professionals while developing valuable skills in customer service and retail operations.
