Job Description
Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) is a well-established supermarket chain headquartered in Tyler, Texas. With over 215 stores spread across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, BGC operates under five distinct banners: Brookshire's Grocery Company, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, Fresh by Brookshire's, and Reasor's. The company is deeply committed to not only serving the grocery needs of its diverse communities but also fostering a thriving workplace culture for its employees, whom it refers to as partners. BGC prides itself on creating an inclusive work environment where employees can grow their careers, contribute meaningfully to their teams, and enjoy a range of benefits aimed at supporting their health, wellness, and financial well-being.
At Brookshire Grocery Company, the focus extends beyond the usual retail operations to building a supportive community where employees are valued and their contributions are celebrated. The company's comprehensive benefits package includes medical, vision, dental, and prescription coverage, paid time off to help employees recharge, and a 401(k) plan with company contributions to secure their financial futures. In addition to competitive employee discounts, BGC invests in educational support and scholarships to help employees achieve their personal and professional dreams. Unique to BGC is access to a sprawling 205-acre outdoor recreational area, encouraging a healthy work-life balance.
The role of a Cashier at Brookshire Grocery Company is pivotal in delivering outstanding customer service and ensuring a smooth front-end shopping experience. This position involves engaging with customers by efficiently processing their transactions, accurately weighing and scanning grocery items, and managing tender processes including checks, credit, debit, coupons, EBT, WIC, and other payment methods. The cashier also plays a key role in maintaining safety and sanitation standards within the store, assisting customers with product location and questions, promoting loyalty programs such as the Thank You Card, and ensuring that groceries are bagged properly to prevent damage and maintain product integrity.
Moreover, the cashier must stay current with all applicable policies regarding the sale of restricted items like tobacco and alcohol, complying with local, state, and federal laws. The position requires a friendly demeanor, basic mathematical and cash handling skills, as well as the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility in scheduling, including availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, is necessary for this role. This on-the-job training position is open to candidates 16 years or older and, where applicable, requires TABC/LACT certification.
In this customer-facing role, the cashier contributes directly to the customer's shopping experience by managing the checkout process accurately and efficiently while maintaining excellent service standards. The work environment is dynamic, involving regular interaction with customers and partners alike, and the ability to remain courteous and effective under busy conditions is essential. The position also involves physical demands such as standing for extended periods, lifting and handling grocery items up to 75 pounds, and performing various movements needed to assist customers and maintain the front end of the store.
Brookshire Grocery Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values diversity and inclusivity across all aspects of employment. The company fosters a safe, drug and alcohol-free workplace and welcomes candidates who are eager to find a career where they belong. If you are looking to join a retailer that cares about your growth and provides comprehensive support and benefits, a Cashier position at BGC offers an excellent opportunity to build your career in a welcoming, community-focused environment.
