Job Description

Kroger is a leading American grocery retail company with a rich history dating back over a century to its humble beginnings as a small grocery store in Cincinnati. Over the years, Kroger has expanded significantly to become the nation’s largest grocery chain, operating nearly 2,800 stores across 35 states under 28 different brand names. The company prides itself on its commitment to serving diverse communities through passionate teams driven by a shared mission: To Feed the Human Spirit. Kroger is well recognized for its innovative approach within the grocery industry, continuously striving to offer exceptional shopping experiences to customers while fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment for its employees.

The role of Cashier/Checker at Kroger is pivotal to the overall customer experience and store operations. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about providing outstanding customer service and who thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic retail setting. As a Cashier/Checker, you will be the face of Kroger, expected to actively engage with customers by greeting them warmly, assisting with their needs, and processing their transactions accurately and efficiently at the checkout lanes. Your duties will extend beyond simple transactions: you will operate the Point of Sale (POS) system managing various payment methods including cash, checks, credit, debit, and government issued benefits like SNAP EBT and WIC.

Integrity, honesty, and respect form the core values of Kroger that every associate is expected to demonstrate. In this role, you will also ensure compliance with company policies regarding cash handling, restricted sales of age-regulated products such as alcohol and tobacco, and proper procedures for coupons, gift cards, and rain checks. Your responsibilities include maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the checkout area and assisting in loss prevention by adhering to limits on cash shortages and overages.

Kroger also emphasizes a safe and inclusive workplace, encouraging associates to identify and report unsafe conditions and participate in preventive maintenance of store equipment. One of the key aspects of the role involves offering knowledgeable assistance to customers about products sold within the store, boosting customer satisfaction and repeat patronage.

Working at Kroger means joining a family-oriented company dedicated to your growth and wellbeing. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage, flexible scheduling with paid time off, employee discounts, tuition reimbursement up to $21,000, and opportunities for career advancement through extensive training programs. Access to emotional and financial support through dedicated Employee Assistance Programs and financial tools further underscores Kroger’s commitment to its associates.

This position is ideal for individuals who have prior customer service experience and possess effective communication skills, basic math proficiency, and the ability to handle conflict in a calm and cooperative manner. If you are eager to grow within a supportive and inclusive environment and want to be part of an industry-leading company committed to quality and integrity, Kroger invites you to apply and become a valued member of their team.
