Job Description

Giant Tiger is a well-established Canadian discount store chain that has been serving communities for over 60 years. The company prides itself on its mission to help Canadians save more every day by providing quality products at competitive prices. With a deep-rooted commitment to community values and customer satisfaction, Giant Tiger has become a trusted name in retail across Canada. The company's emphasis on building strong store teams ensures that every customer has a positive shopping experience, whether they are looking for groceries, apparel, or household items. Giant Tiger operates multiple stores nationwide and continually looks for friendly and motivated individuals to join their team and contribute to their ongoing success.

The role of Cashier at Giant Tiger is an essential position within the store, directly impacting the customer experience and operational efficiency. As a Cashier, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service at the checkout, accurately processing transactions using electronic cash registers, including mainline and self-checkouts. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to health and safety standards, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Duties extend beyond transaction handling and include replenishing merchandise near the checkout area, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and ensuring compliance with loss prevention measures and company policies, particularly regarding the sale of Tobacco and Lottery products.

Working hours for this position vary depending on whether the role is full-time or part-time. A full-time schedule typically includes day shifts, two evening shifts per week, and alternating weekends, amounting to 35-40 hours per week. Part-time schedules offer flexibility with a mix of days, evenings, and weekends totaling up to 24 hours weekly. The job also entails some physical demands such as standing or walking for extended periods, bending, twisting, squatting, lifting items up to 18 kg (40 lbs), and performing repetitive hand motions. The company is committed to accommodating individuals with disabilities to enable them to perform these essential functions effectively.

At Giant Tiger, employees benefit from a comprehensive Total Rewards package aimed at supporting their financial security, health, and career development. Competitive compensation is offered and is determined by factors such as experience, skill level, and internal equity. Additionally, eligible employees may receive an annual profit-sharing bonus based on store performance. Health and dental benefits become accessible after three months of full-time employment, alongside paid time off for personal and vacation days. Career advancement is a priority at Giant Tiger, with a strong culture of internal promotion and continuous training and coaching provided to help employees develop and excel within the company. Store discounts on various product categories, including apparel, footwear, health and beauty, groceries, toys, and housewares, are also a valued employee perk at Giant Tiger.

Located at 436 Thompson Drive, Thompson, Manitoba, Giant Tiger is proud to foster a diverse, equal, and inclusive workplace. The company encourages all candidates, regardless of whether they meet every listed requirement, to apply. Support and accommodations during the recruitment process are provided to ensure fair employment opportunities. However, candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, as the company does not sponsor work permits.
