The Full-Time Retail Associate position at G&M plays a critical role in upholding the company’s standards by delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining store safety and cleanliness. This hourly, non-managerial position reports directly to the Store Manager and involves multiple responsibilities including handling sales transactions accurately using POS systems, managing cash and other payment methods securely, and adhering to policies for the sale of regulated products such as tobacco, alcohol, and lottery tickets. In addition to transactional duties, the role requires active participation in sales promotions, suggestive selling techniques, and building customer relationships to meet and exceed sales goals.

The Retail Associate is also responsible for preparing hot food items following specific procedures, managing the cleanliness of the store inside and out, including restocking shelves and maintaining product freshness through proper rotation. The position demands physical capability to stand or walk throughout shifts, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform various cleaning and stocking tasks. The full-time nature of the job requires flexible availability to work various shifts including days, nights, and weekends, adapting to store needs and district-wide demands.

Job Requirements

  • food handlers permit, if required by store/county
  • excellent computer skills
  • ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English

  • have open availability to work all shifts as needed at home store and other stores within district when the need arises

Job Duties

  • Take measures to preserve the safety of employees and all others in the work location
  • operate POS (cash register and fuel console) precisely and accurately manage money and other types of payment received for product sold
  • enter all transactions into the register, accept payments and account for all funds, conduct sales transactions accurately and quickly
  • perform service transactions in accordance with company policy such as credit card transactions, manufacturer coupon redemption, vendor check-in, alcohol, tobacco and lottery sales, and fast-food sales
  • check identification for alcohol, tobacco, and lottery products according to company policy
  • actively participate in all sales promotions and other campaigns
  • practice suggestive selling and build customer relations, be aware of sales goals and performance against those goals
  • review and adhere to all city, county, state, and federal laws affecting store operations
  • always maintain a neat personal appearance and wear company uniform and name tag
  • prepare hot food items as designated by Store Manager, including brewing fresh coffee, maintaining condiment bar, monitoring fresh food availability
  • ensure the store is free of litter and spills and all equipment is sanitized and in working condition
  • sweep floors, spot mop as required, clean fuel delivery area, pumps, and restock outside water/trash
  • spot check restrooms often and restock
  • perform regular cleaning of counters, store equipment, trash (inside and out), and maintain cleanliness inside and out
  • front face cooler and Hydrazone as well as dust merchandise
  • clean station windows, straighten, and organize backroom supplies and equipment
  • receive product deliveries and stock shelves using proper techniques
  • wipe counters, food warmers, microwaves, and keep trays clean with no liquid
  • conduct daily inspections of perishable products to check freshness and proper rotation
  • follow company policy on robbery/violence prevention and safety and participate in store sales building, customer service, and team-building activities
  • act as backup cashier during Barista shifts, brew fresh coffee every 2 hours, maintain condiment bar and monitor fresh food availability
  • during night shifts, deep clean restrooms, clean drains, sweep and mop floors, and prepare for morning rush by ensuring all machines are clean and restocked.
