The role in focus is that of a Cashier/Checker, a vital position in delivering outstanding customer service and ensuring smooth checkout processes. The Cashier/Checker serves as a visible and active ambassador of Fred Meyer’s core values, greeting customers warmly and assisting efficiently. This position requires keen attention to detail in processing transactions accurately and swiftly through the Point of Sale system, adeptly handling diverse payment methods, including cash, checks, credit/debit cards, SNAP EBT, coupons, and loyalty offers, while adhering strictly to company policies and legal guidelines. Job Duties

  • Greet and assist customers actively throughout the store environment
  • Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently at the checkout
  • Handle various payment tenders including cash, checks, credit/debit cards, SNAP EBT, coupons, and loyalty offers according to company policy
  • Monitor and control cash shortages or overages and adhere to guidelines on restricted sales items
  • Report pricing discrepancies and maintain adherence to all food safety regulations and company procedures
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, and support preventive maintenance
  • Provide friendly and knowledgeable service by answering customer questions and promoting a welcoming store atmosphere
  • Follow local, state, and federal laws while maintaining integrity and confidentiality in all business operations
  • Manage conflict in a cooperative and nonconfrontational manner
  • Support and assist diverse customers including minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment while following directions and seeking assistance when appropriate
