Job Description
Kroger, originating from a single small grocery store in Cincinnati over a century ago, has evolved into the nation's largest grocer, operating nearly 2,800 stores across 35 states under 28 different names. As America’s grocer, Kroger is driven by a passion for food and people, bringing together diverse teams united by a powerful mission: To Feed the Human Spirit. Known for its history of innovation and commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences, Kroger continuously works to create amazing moments not only for customers but for the communities it serves, with food at the center of everything.
The company values its people and emphasizes respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety, which form the foundation of all it does. Kroger supports its associates by providing comprehensive resources and opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. Whether employees seek part-time roles or long-term career paths, Kroger offers flexible scheduling and substantial benefits designed to nurture their well-being and potential.
The role of Cashier/Checker at Kroger is a vital position focused on delivering an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. This role requires acting as the friendly face and approachable presence that greet and assist customers actively. Responsibilities include swiftly, accurately, and efficiently processing customer transactions at the checkout, operating the Point of Sale (POS) system, and handling multiple tender types including cash, checks, credit/debit cards, SNAP EBT, WIC, coupons, and loyalty offers. Attention to detail is critical as the Cashier/Checker must adhere to company policies regarding cash handling, loss prevention, and restricted sales items such as alcohol and tobacco.
Cashiers are expected to contribute to a safe and welcoming environment by following established food safety regulations, safety procedures, and preventive maintenance practices. Communication skills and the ability to manage conflict in a calm, respectful manner are essential for resolving issues and ensuring that customers feel valued and supported. The Cashier/Checker also plays a role in reporting pricing discrepancies, staying updated on current and promotional pricing, and assisting customers of all backgrounds, including minors and individuals with special needs.
This position offers more than just a job; Kroger supports its associates with a wide range of benefits including affordable health coverage options, paid time off, emotional and financial counseling, valuable employee discounts, and significant tuition reimbursement, fostering an environment where employees can thrive and build fulfilling careers. With a commitment to growth and learning, Kroger provides numerous training programs and career pathways, making it an ideal workplace for those who are caring, purpose-driven, and eager to learn new skills.
