The role being offered is a Customer Service Cashier position, geared towards individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced retail environment with direct customer interaction. As a cashier at BGC, you will be responsible for efficiently processing customer transactions, ensuring accuracy in checkout totals, and providing friendly, knowledgeable service to enhance the shopping experience. This role requires proficiency in using cash registers, handling various payment tender types including credit, debit, EBT, WIC, and coupons, as well as adhering to company and legal policies regarding the sale of restricted items such as tobacco and alcohol. Cashiers are also tasked with bagging groceries safely and properly, stocking front-end displays, maintaining cleanliness and safety in the store environment, and promoting customer programs like the Thank You Card. The position generally involves on-the-job training, requires individuals to be at least 16 years old, and may include working flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting objects, and using fine motor skills. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age

  • TABC/LACT certification where applicable
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Basic math skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to maintain customer service standards

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Ensures correct checkout totals for customers by properly weighing, keying, and scanning items
  • Maintains accurate money count in register at all times
  • Accesses or memorizes product codes and remains familiar with ad and special items
  • Remains current on tender policies and procedures related to checks, credit, debit, coupons, EBT, WIC, AML, etc
  • Maintains friendly and customer-service-oriented attitude by greeting customers, answering questions, locating and promoting products, and responding to complaints
  • Promotes enrollment in Thank You Card program and assists customers with sign up process, where applicable
  • Ensures groceries are bagged properly by putting like items together, limiting bag weight, preventing food cross-contamination, and ensuring customer receipt of all purchased items
  • Takes precaution when handling objects to avoid damage to products, property, etc
  • Ensures front-end racks, drink coolers and cleaning supply stations are stocked, cleaned, and presentable
  • Maintains clean, safe and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to Company safety procedures
  • Complies with all Company policies and procedures
  • Accountable for adhering to all local, state, and federal laws regarding sales of restricted items such as tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis-based and pharmaceutical products
