The role available at G&M is a full-time retail associate position that reports directly to the store manager. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide superior customer service in alignment with G&M corporate standards and guidance from management. This role requires the ability to multitask efficiently and confidently work as part of a team to maintain a welcoming and orderly environment. Key duties include operating the POS system accurately, managing cash and other payments, conducting various sales transactions such as credit cards, coupons, and alcohol/tobacco sales while adhering to company policies and legal requirements.
Employees in this position will engage actively in sales promotions, practice suggestive selling, and help meet sales goals while ensuring compliance with all relevant city, county, state, and federal laws affecting store operations. Personal presentation is important, with expectations to wear a company uniform and name tag at all times. The role also involves food preparation tasks such as brewing coffee, maintaining a condiment bar, and handling hot food items following designated procedures.
Maintaining store cleanliness is a critical part of this job. Associates are responsible for frequent cleaning of the sales floor, fuel delivery areas, restrooms, equipment, and stock areas. This includes tasks such as sweeping, mopping, wiping down counters and equipment, dusting merchandise, and organizing backroom supplies. They will also receive and stock merchandise shipments using proper safety and lifting techniques and ensure product freshness by conducting inspections and rotations of perishable goods.
Safety is paramount at G&M. Employees are expected to uphold all safety measures, participate in robbery and violence prevention protocols, and follow emergency procedures diligently. At times, when assigned a Barista shift or a third shift, the associate will perform specific duties including coffee brewing on schedules, operating the cash register as backup cashier, deep cleaning tasks, and preparing for morning rush hours.
This retail associate position is a dynamic role suited for individuals who excel in customer-facing environments, have excellent interpersonal and computer skills, and possess the capacity to quickly learn tasks with minimal supervision. The role also demands physical capability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry weighty items, bend, stoop, and perform various movements required during a busy retail shift.

Job Requirements
- Must be able to stand and/or walk for entire shift
- ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds from ground to waist level
- ability to bend at waist with some twisting during workday

- ability to push and pull with arms up to a force of 20 pounds (e.g., utilizing a hand truck)

- requires hand-eye coordination and may require bilateral coordination of hands
Job Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent
- excellent computer skills including competency in PDI Enterprise POS
- excellent customer service skills
- excellent interpersonal skills
- ability to learn simple tasks quickly and work with little or no supervision
- basic math skills
- food handlers permit if required by store/county
- ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English
- open availability to work all shifts at home store and other stores within district
Job Duties
- Take measures to preserve the safety of employees and all others in the work location
- operate POS (cash register and fuel console) precisely and accurately manage money and other types of payment received for product sold
- enter all transactions into the register, accept payments and account for all funds
- perform service transactions including credit card transactions, manufacturer coupon redemption, vendor check-in, alcohol, tobacco and lottery sales, and fast-food sales
- check identification for alcohol, tobacco, and lottery products according to company policy
- actively participate in all sales promotions and other campaigns
- practice suggestive selling and build customer relations
- review and adhere to all city, county, state, and federal laws affecting store operations
- maintain a neat personal appearance and wear company uniform and name tag
- prepare hot food items including brewing fresh coffee and maintaining condiment bar
- ensure the store is free of litter and spills and all equipment is sanitized and in working condition
- sweep floors and spot mop as needed and before changing shifts
- wipe down Fuel Delivery area, pumps, and change outside water/trash when needed
- ensure restroom cleanliness and restocking
- perform regular cleaning of counter surfaces, store equipment, trash, floors and other duties assigned
- front face cooler and Hydrazone and dust merchandise
- clean station windows and organize backroom supplies
- receive product deliveries and stock shelves using proper techniques
- wipe down counters, food warmers, microwaves, and keep trays clean
- conduct daily inspection of perishable products for freshness and rotation
- follow company policy on robbery/violence prevention and safety
- act as backup cashier during Barista shift, conduct sales transactions accurately and quickly
- brew fresh coffee every 2 hours and maintain food availability
- clean drains, sweep and mop floors, deep clean restrooms and machines during night shifts
- prepare for morning rush ensuring fresh coffee and stocked creamer machine
