Job Description

Kroger, one of America's largest and most trusted grocery retailers, began as a small Cincinnati grocery store over a century ago and has since grown into a national powerhouse with nearly 2,800 stores across 35 states under 28 different banners. As the nation's leading grocer, Kroger embraces diversity and inclusion while remaining committed to its core values of respect, honesty, integrity, and safety. Kroger prides itself on connecting passionate teams centered around food and people, all with one united goal: To Feed the Human Spirit. With a rich history of innovation and dedication to creating exceptional experiences, Kroger serves its customers, communities, and associates with food at the very heart of everything it does. At Kroger, people truly matter. The company continuously seeks to empower associates at every level by providing valuable resources that support growth, both professionally and personally. Those who are caring, purpose-driven, and eager to learn will find unlimited potential within the organization. Whether you are interested in a part-time position or seeking a long-term career path, Kroger offers fresh opportunities and welcomes you to join its expansive and supportive family.

The role of Cashier/Checker at Kroger is an essential part of delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining a welcoming and safe environment. Cashiers are the frontline ambassadors who greet, engage with, and assist customers, ensuring smooth and efficient transactions using the Point of Sale (POS) system. This role requires attention to detail to handle various payment tenders, including cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, coupons, and loyalty offers, in alignment with company policies. The Cashier/Checker position demands honesty and integrity, especially when managing cash shortages or overages and adhering to legal guidelines for restricted items like alcohol and tobacco. Additionally, these associates monitor and report pricing discrepancies, enforce established procedures for postage stamps and gift cards, stay knowledgeable about current promotions, and comply with food safety and loss prevention protocols. Working cooperatively in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment, Cashiers must also demonstrate effective conflict resolution and maintain a professional demeanor at all times. This role not only involves transactional responsibilities but also contributes to creating a friendly atmosphere where customers feel valued and supported with product information and assistance. At Kroger, the Cashier/Checker position offers an opportunity to be part of a team committed to exceptional service, associate development, and community impact.
