Job Description
Founded over a century ago in Cincinnati as a single grocery store, Kroger has grown into the nation's largest grocer with nearly 2,800 stores operating in 35 states under 28 different names. As America’s grocer, Kroger is deeply committed to bringing together diverse teams united by a passion for food and people. The company’s mission is clear: To Feed the Human Spirit. With a legacy steeped in innovation, Kroger continually strives to create exceptional experiences not only for customers but also for the communities it serves and for its associates. Food is at the heart of Kroger’s operations, but it is the people that make the difference.
The Kroger family believes in fostering a culture where every individual matters. The company supports its employees by offering the tools and resources needed to succeed both professionally and personally. Whether you are searching for a part-time role to complement your life or a gateway to a fulfilling career path, Kroger provides an environment rich with opportunities for growth. Kroger invests in its people by valuing diversity, inclusion, respect, and integrity at every level of the organization. Associates are empowered to develop their skills with access to industry-leading education programs and career advancement opportunities.
This role focuses on delivering an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. As a Cashier/Checker at Kroger, you will be highly visible on the sales floor actively engaging, greeting, and assisting customers. You will process customer transactions efficiently and accurately while providing a welcoming and positive environment that encourages repeat visits. Your duties will include working with the Point of Sale (POS) systems to handle various payment methods such as cash, credit, debit, checks, SNAP EBT, and more, while adhering to company policies and procedures.
Maintaining a safe and clean environment is critical. You will reinforce safety programs by identifying unsafe conditions and promoting food safety compliance. Honesty and integrity are paramount, particularly when handling cash and company resources, ensuring loss prevention measures are followed. This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to manage conflict calmly and cooperatively. You will also provide specialized support through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults, demonstrating Kroger’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
Kroger is proud to offer robust benefits designed to support the overall well-being of its associates. These include medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage, flexible scheduling with paid time off including holidays and sick pay, free counseling services, financial coaching, associate discounts, and up to $21,000 in tuition reimbursement through its Continuing Education program. The company places a strong emphasis on growth and development with numerous training programs and career pathways available to its employees. Joining Kroger means becoming part of a company that cares deeply about feeding the future—both its customers and its people.
