The role of Cashier/Checker at Kroger is integral to delivering exceptional customer experiences that keep customers returning time and time again. This position requires a visible presence on the shop floor, greeting and engaging customers actively while efficiently processing transactions with accuracy and care. A Cashier/Checker must be proficient in the use of the Point of Sale (POS) system and knowledgeable in managing multiple payment methods including cash, credit, debit, checks, SNAP EBT, and more, all while adhering to the company’s policies around cash handling, restricted items, and promotions.

Moreover, cashiers play a key role in maintaining store standards by reporting pricing discrepancies, complying with food safety and regulatory standards, and supporting store safety programs. Job Duties

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return

  • Greet, engage, and assist customers actively on the sales floor
  • Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently using the Point of Sale system
  • Handle various tenders such as cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, offline SNAP EBT, WIC, rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons, and checkout procedures
  • Understand and adhere to company policies on cash shortages, restricted sale items, postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons
  • Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
  • Recognize and notify management of unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues
  • Perform preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting repair needs
  • Create an environment where customers feel welcome and valued by answering product questions
  • Comply with all local, state and federal laws and company guidelines
  • Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
  • Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues
