Job Description
Kroger is the nation’s largest grocer with nearly 2,800 stores across 35 states operating under 28 different store names. Originating from a small grocery store in Cincinnati over a century ago, the company has grown into a trusted leader in the retail grocery industry. Kroger takes pride in its diverse teams united by a shared passion for food and people, all working towards one common purpose: To Feed the Human Spirit. This mission underscores Kroger’s commitment to providing exceptional food experiences not just for its customers, but also within its communities and among its associates. As America’s grocer, Kroger places a high value on innovation and constantly strives to create remarkable experiences, with food at the center of everything it does. The company values its people immensely, reinforcing a culture where respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety are the core values guiding the work environment.
The role of Cashier/Checker at Kroger is pivotal in ensuring an outstanding customer experience by delivering exceptional service. Associates in this position are tasked with creating a welcoming atmosphere by engaging with customers actively and helping them during their shopping experience. This role requires not only processing transactions quickly and accurately but also handling various payment tenders such as cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, and more while adhering to company policies and procedures. Cashiers must maintain a safe and clean environment within the store that encourages customers to return, reinforcing Kroger’s reputation for excellent service.
In addition to transaction processing, the Cashier/Checker serves as an important frontline representative of Kroger’s values, demonstrating respect, honesty, integrity, and inclusion in every interaction. Associates ensure compliance with legal regulations and company standards related to restricted sales items, food safety, pricing, and loss prevention. The role involves periodic inspection and preventive maintenance of equipment and actively participating in the store’s safety programs by identifying unsafe conditions. The position demands adaptability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment, with the ability to manage conflict in a professional manner. Kroger supports its associates’ growth and well-being by offering competitive benefits like comprehensive healthcare coverage, flexible scheduling, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and access to various training programs designed to build career pathways within the organization. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are caring, purpose-driven, and eager to learn and grow within a supportive and dynamic company culture.
