Job Description

G&M is a retail establishment specializing in providing a convenient and customer-focused shopping experience. G&M is seeking to hire full-time retail associates who will be instrumental in continuing this tradition of excellence. This opportunity is hourly compensated and reports directly to the Store Manager. The Retail Associate at G&M plays a crucial role in upholding the company’s corporate standards while providing exceptional customer service. This role involves operating point-of-sale systems accurately, handling monetary transactions, and ensuring compliance with company policies and local regulations. Associates will be responsible for various service transactions, including the management of sales for age-restricted products such as alcohol, tobacco, and lottery tickets, requiring diligent identification verification. Moreover, associates actively participate in sales promotions, contribute to suggestive selling strategies, and maintain awareness of sales goals.

Beyond customer interaction, the role requires maintaining an orderly, clean, and safe store environment. Duties include general cleaning, restocking merchandise, handling product deliveries with proper lifting techniques, and preparing hot food items following store procedures. Additional responsibilities involve ensuring all equipment is sanitized and operational, managing fuel delivery areas, and monitoring the freshness and rotation of perishable goods. This position also demands adherence to safety protocols pertaining to robbery and violence prevention, and participation in team-building and sales driving efforts. The associate may cover barista shifts, requiring the preparation of fresh coffee and upkeep of beverage stations.

This full-time position requires flexibility, including the ability to work various shifts and locations within the district as needed. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to quickly learn tasks, and a proactive, safety-conscious attitude. The physical demands involve prolonged periods of standing and walking, carrying weights up to 50 pounds, and performing various physical movements throughout the shift. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for entire shift
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds from ground to waist level
  • Ability to bend at waist with some twisting during workday
  • Ability to work with arms bent all day
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, and/or crouch while working
  • Ability to push and pull with arms up to a force of 20 pounds
  • Ability to grasp, reach and manipulate objects with hands throughout workday requiring hand-eye coordination
  • Work performed in retail environment
  • Must have high school diploma or GED
  • Food Handlers Permit if required

Job Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Excellent computer skills including competency in PDI Enterprise POS
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn simple tasks quickly and work with little or no supervision
  • Basic math skills
  • Food Handlers Permit if required by store or county
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English
  • Have open availability to work all shifts as needed

Job Duties

  • Take measures to preserve the safety of employees and all others in the work location
  • Operate POS (cash register and fuel console) precisely and accurately manage money and other types of payment received for product sold
  • Enter all transactions into the register, accept payments and account for all funds
  • Conduct service transactions such as credit card, coupon redemption, vendor check-in, alcohol, tobacco, lottery, and fast-food sales according to company policy
  • Check identification for alcohol, tobacco, and lottery products
  • Actively participate in all sales promotions and other campaigns
  • Practice suggestive selling and build customer relations
  • Review and adhere to all city, county, state, and federal laws affecting store operations
  • Maintain neat personal appearance and wear company uniform and name tag
  • Prepare hot food items as designated by Store Manager including brewing coffee and maintaining condiment bar
  • Maintain store cleanliness inside and out including sweeping, mopping, wiping counters, cleaning restrooms, and trash management
  • Front face cooler and Hydrazone as well as dust merchandise
  • Organize backroom supplies and equipment
  • Receive product deliveries from vendors and stock shelves properly
  • Conduct daily inspections of perishable products for freshness and proper rotation
  • Follow company policy on robbery/violence prevention and safety
  • Participate in store sales building, customer service, and team-building activities
  • Act as back up cashier during Barista shift
  • Brew fresh coffee every 2 hours and maintain food availability
  • Perform deep cleaning during night shifts including drains and machines
  • Prepare for morning rush by ensuring fresh coffee and clean equipment
