Job Description

Goodwill of Central North Carolina is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives and enriching communities through the transformative power of work. With a strong presence in the retail sector through its numerous retail stores and donation centers, Goodwill carries out its mission by breaking down barriers to employment. This is achieved by offering comprehensive job training, employment support, and career readiness resources to individuals from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Their core values emphasize diversity, inclusion, and community empowerment, making Goodwill a compassionate leader in social impact within the retail environment. The organization is committed to making a meaningful difference not only for those it serves but also for its employees, fostering a workplace culture where every team member feels valued and part of a larger purpose.

This role is an hourly, non-exempt position offering a starting wage of $13 per hour plus quarterly performance-based bonuses. Both full-time and part-time employment options are available, with part-time positions offering up to 28 hours per week and full-time positions based on a 40-hour workweek with open availability required. Employees can expect to work within retail hours that may include evenings, weekends, and some holidays, but notably, there are no late-night shifts. The schedule is aligned with Goodwill's retail store hours, generally Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 8 PM and Sundays from 1 PM to 6 PM.

In this role, team members will engage directly with customers, providing a welcoming and positive shopping experience. The position entails greeting customers, efficiently operating the cash register, and maintaining an organized and attractive store environment. When not directly serving customers, employees will assist in restocking merchandise, rotating stock to keep displays fresh, and ensuring the store is clean and orderly. This fast-paced, high-energy retail position demands flexibility, a positive attitude, and strong communication skills to thrive. Employees are expected to perform light to medium physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 pounds and various movements including stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Joining Goodwill means becoming part of a compassionate team dedicated to community impact and personal growth. The organization prides itself on providing a supportive and inclusive workplace with extensive benefits available to both full-time and part-time employees. These benefits include health care options, supplemental and life insurance, paid time off, holiday pay, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching, and educational assistance to support ongoing development and success. Overall, this position represents an excellent opportunity for individuals who seek meaningful employment in a values-driven organization while gaining valuable retail and customer service experience.
