The Cashier/Stock position at Au Bon Pain plays a vital role in maintaining the cafe's standard for exceptional service. As the first and last interaction point for guests, this role carries the responsibility of creating an inviting and efficient front-line experience. The cashier manages transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the company's cash handling policies and protocols. Additionally, this position involves maintaining the cafe stocked with bakery items, refrigerated products, and impulse buys, guaranteeing that every guest finds what they need.

This role is designated as non-exempt and hourly, reporting directly to the general manager, manager, or shift supervisor within the cafe operations department. The Cashier/Stock team member is integral to the smooth operation of the cafe by providing prompt, courteous service and supporting a clean and organized environment. Beyond handling payments efficiently, this position requires strong communication skills, the ability to multitask, and a proactive attitude to address guest needs and team collaboration effectively.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • strong attention to detail and time management

  • ability to maintain a standing position for extended periods of time (up to 6 hours at a time)
  • ability to move around the café to attend to the needs of guests
  • ability to move, lift and handle equipment, supplies and other objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • ability to position self to move items weighing up to 25 pounds from floor to shelves and cabinets above and below counter height

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in cashier or customer service roles preferred
  • strong communication and listening skills
  • ability to work well in a team environment
  • basic math skills for handling transactions
  • ability to follow company policies and procedures
  • friendly and professional demeanor

Job Duties

  • Complete ABP transactions by scanning items, inputting product codes, taking in cash and providing change or processing card transactions
  • manage cash drawer security, cash balance and adhere to ABP's cash handling policy
  • provide guest-first service by listening, responding, and resolving guest requests quickly through strong product knowledge
  • stock bakery, refrigerated and impulse products
  • maintain professional interactions with guests and team members
  • collaborate as a team to achieve efficient operations
  • keep work area clean, organized, and stocked
  • resolve any problems and keep management informed as issues arise
  • clean and maintain dining room as needed
  • assist with serving coffee as needed
  • perform other related responsibilities as assigned
