Job Description

We are currently seeking a diligent and enthusiastic Cashier to join our team. This role is pivotal in fostering a positive guest relations atmosphere while safeguarding the financial accuracy of daily transactions. The Cashier acts as the face of our café, responsible not only for operating the point of sale system with precision but also for numerous front-of-house duties including beverage preparation, food presentation, and maintaining clean and appealing service areas. Beyond handling transactions, the position involves making coffee and tea, cooking soups, setting up displays, managing condiment stations, and keeping the front of house well-stocked. The successful candidate will be expected to assist with routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping and mopping, as well as occasionally supporting other roles such as Expo, Server Assistant, or bussing, showcasing a versatile and team-oriented approach.

This role requires a keen eye for detail especially when it comes to cash handling and ensuring the integrity of each sale. The Cashier must verify initial cash amounts, manage cash flow during shifts, and ensure all financial records are accurate. In addition to technical proficiency, strong communication skills and a friendly demeanor are essential as the Cashier engages with guests to provide information about our food offerings, allergens, and nutritional content and actively encourages upselling to enhance guest experience and increase sales. This dynamic role demands an individual who is organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • state food handler card/ServSafe certification as applicable
  • minimum 3 months work experience in cash handling
  • experience in restaurant or retail environment preferred
  • possess strong guest service and communication skills
  • organized and detail oriented
  • proficient in use of POS – Point of Sale systems
  • ability to read, write and speak English
  • proficiency in basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Makes coffee/tea and other drinks as required
  • packages sweets and cakes
  • sets up and maintains abundant displays/changes out displays based on time of day
  • responsible for condiment station set up
  • responsible for FOH set up (table tents/stanchion signs, etc.)
  • responsible for cashier station to include operation and cash flow
  • verify initial cash
  • ensures accurate financial transactions
  • answer phone
  • can describe food offerings/allergens/nutrition
  • engages in upselling and suggestive selling of our products
  • frost cakes
  • responsible for maintaining a stocked FOH
  • cut bars/brownies
  • empty trash when required
  • mop and sweep as required
  • communicates effectively with guest
  • alerts manager to any guest issues for immediate resolution
  • smile, friendly, takes appropriate action to guest requests
  • supports and promotes company initiatives (sales goals, guest service goals, food safety goals)
  • follows safety and sanitation requirements
  • may substitute for Expo, SA, or bussing if needed
