Job Description

Food 4 Less is a well-established grocery store chain based in California that merged with The Kroger Company in 1998. With over 100 stores spanning California and the Midwest, Food 4 Less proudly serves diverse communities by offering quality products and exceptional customer experiences. As part of the Kroger family of companies, Food 4 Less embraces the shared mission of Feeding the Human Spirit. This mission is driven by the passion of their diverse teams who focus on food and people. Known for their history of innovation, Food 4 Less strives every day to create amazing experiences not only for their customers but also for the communities they serve and their dedicated employees. Their commitment to food quality, customer service, and community engagement positions them as a leader in the grocery retail market.

The role of Cashier/Checker at Food 4 Less centers on creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. The Cashier/Checker is responsible for being visible and actively engaging customers by greeting them and assisting them with their needs. This position requires handling customer transactions accurately and efficiently at the checkout lanes. Cashiers must be proficient with the Point of Sale (POS) system and manage various payment methods including cash, checks, credit/debit cards, SNAP EBT, and coupons while adhering to company policies. Exceptional integrity is crucial, as the Cashier/Checker must monitor and work to control cash shortages and overages. Additionally, knowledge of company guidelines for restricted sale items such as alcohol and tobacco is essential.

The Cashier/Checker also plays a supportive role in maintaining the store environment by reporting pricing discrepancies, following food safety regulations, and reinforcing safety procedures. They must be proactive in identifying unsafe conditions or equipment that requires repair, thereby promoting a safe shopping and working environment. The position requires the ability to manage conflict in a cooperative and non-confrontational manner, and to follow company values such as respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Besides transactional duties, the Cashier/Checker helps create an environment where customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products and store policies. The role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with flexible scheduling options that can accommodate either part-time or full-time employment. Food 4 Less supports career growth by offering access to training programs, tuition reimbursement, and a broad range of employee benefits aimed at physical, emotional, and financial well-being. This position is ideal for those who are caring, purpose-driven, and eager to learn, providing a pathway to a rewarding career in the food retail industry.
