Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- Must demonstrate friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- Ability to communicate effectively using hearing and speech
- Ability to complete written forms
- Capability to conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as registers, scanners and scales
- Ability to stand, sit, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn for long periods
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Learn and memorize product codes, locations and company policies
- Ensure accuracy in scanning and transaction processing with basic math skills
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use household cleaners for work area maintenance
- Navigate high stress situations and handle unsatisfied customers
- Compliance with food safety, tobacco and alcohol sales certifications as required by law
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or grocery cashier experience beneficial
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to operate standard checkout equipment
- Basic math skills for handling transactions
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of food safety and retail compliance
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights and weekends
Job Duties
- Welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Operate check stand equipment including cash registers, scanners and scales
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons and refunds
- Maintain knowledge of product location, UPC codes and pricing
- Keep check stand clean, neat and well-stocked
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- Monitor and assist customers at self-checkout stations
- Respond to and clear errors at self-checkout lanes
- Ensure safety of self-checkout area and customers
- Follow all applicable laws concerning restricted items sale
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp and WIC procedures
