Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • capability to perform friendly and courteous relations with customers and co-workers
  • ability to communicate effectively using hearing and speech
  • ability to complete written forms
  • capacity to conduct visual inspection and read merchandise information
  • ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • operation of check stand equipment including cash registers and scanners
  • ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and turning frequently
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • ability to learn and memorize significant information including PLU codes and company policies
  • mental alertness and basic math skills to ensure transaction accuracy
  • occasional use of blades for box cutting
  • use of household cleaners to maintain work area
  • ability to efficiently and accurately perform primary duties
  • capacity to handle high stress situations and manage volatile customers
  • possession of food safety/handler cards and certifications for tobacco and alcohol sales as required by applicable laws

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • experience in retail or customer service environments advantageous
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to operate point-of-sale equipment
  • basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • ability to memorize product codes and company policies
  • capability to handle cash and accurately process transactions
  • ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations
  • knowledge of state and federal laws related to sales of restricted items

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
  • operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds adhering to cash handling policies
  • maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes, and ensure proper pricing
  • maintain clean, neat, and stocked check stand ensuring a safe and secure work area
  • stock, price, and rotate merchandise
  • assist at multi-station self-checkout lanes
  • assist at the customer service counter
  • follow all state and federal laws concerning restricted or regulated items
  • adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
  • initiate contact with customers at self-checkout to assist transactions
  • respond to SCO alerts and errors
  • monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment
  • actively engage with customers to ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • prioritize safety by addressing or reporting concerns as per company policy
