Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and coworkers with composure
- communicate effectively to perform customer relation tasks
- complete written forms
- conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
- lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- learn and memorize product lookup codes, location of products, and company policies
- ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
- occasionally use blades for box cutting
- use household cleaners to maintain the work area
- navigate and manage high stress situations involving customers
- comply with food safety/handlers cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by applicable state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous retail or customer service experience advantageous but not required
- ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- strong basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- capacity to handle high-volume, fast-paced transactions
- ability to maintain composure and professionalism with customers and coworkers
- basic computer literacy
- knowledge of cash handling procedures
- food safety or handlers card and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by law
- strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- operates check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
- engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, processing coupons, and refunds
- maintains knowledge of current product location, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
- maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe and secure work area
- stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
- may be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane as needed
- may be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
- follows all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
- adheres to all USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- regularly moves within SCO area to expedite transactions and keep area clear of safety hazards
- initiates and engages contact with customers as they process their transactions
- responds to SCO stations to accurately review, address and clear alerts and/or errors with customer transactions
- monitors multiple simultaneous transactions and verifies payment in fast paced setting
- actively engages with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy, and limit shrinkage
- maintains high level of awareness of self-checkout area and customers, anticipates customer needs
- prioritizes safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as provided by company policy
