Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
  • perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
  • communicate effectively (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks
  • complete written forms
  • conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
  • lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • operate check stand equipment including cash registers, scanners and scales
  • stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes and company policies
  • ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with basic math skills
  • occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • perform primary duties efficiently and accurately
  • navigate potentially high stress situations and unsatisfied customers
  • comply with state and local laws regarding food safety, tobacco and alcohol sales certification

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • prior retail or customer service experience an asset
  • ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • capacity to memorize product locations, PLU codes and company policies
  • ability to handle stress and manage high volume customer transactions
  • compliance with food safety and sales certification requirements such as TAM card if required by state or local laws

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupons, and refunds adhering to cash handling policies
  • maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • maintain a clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure a safe and secure work area
  • stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • may be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane or customer service counter as needed
  • perform other duties as assigned or needed
  • follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
  • adhere to USDA food stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
  • initiate and engage contact with customers at self-checkout
  • respond to SCO stations to review, address and clear alerts and errors
  • monitor multiple transactions and verify payments
  • actively engage with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy, and limit shrinkage
  • maintain high level of awareness in self-checkout area, anticipate customer needs and observe transactions
  • prioritize safety by addressing or reporting concerns per company policy
