Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One year of prior retail or related experience preferred
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact politely and effectively with customers
  • Good customer service and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
  • Ability to work in varied retail temperature environments
  • Ability to comply with all PPE, safety, food safety, and cleaning guidelines
  • Must be able to follow company cash handling and security policies
  • Willingness to perform various tasks including stocking and cross-department assignments

Job Duties

  • Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize customer purchases
  • Process financial transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons accurately
  • Weigh and carefully bag customer purchases
  • Understand use of check-stand equipment including register, scanner, scale, and belts
  • Responsible for front-end duties such as merchandising check-stand items including newspapers, periodicals, and candy
  • Ensure proper use of product identification and corresponding PLUs and report pricing or signage errors
  • Maintain understanding of current store programs and product locations
  • Communicate company programs, in-store specials, and coupons to customers
  • Comply with company policies regarding security, cash handling, product handling, and the sale of regulated products
  • Maintain a clean and well-stocked department and comply with safety and sanitation standards
  • May assist with stocking items
  • Follow all PPE, safety guidelines, food safety, cleaning expectations, and guest experience guidelines
  • May be assigned tasks in other departments as needed
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
