Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- ability to perform friendly and courteous customer service with composure
- ability to communicate effectively for customer interaction
- ability to complete written forms
- ability to visually inspect and read merchandise information
- ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- ability to operate check stand equipment
- ability to stand or sit for long periods and walk rapidly
- manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- ability to learn and memorize product, code, and procedure information
- mental alertness for cash handling and basic math
- ability to handle potentially high stress and high volume transaction situations
- food safety handlers card, tobacco and alcohol certification as required by state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous retail or customer service experience beneficial
- ability to use check stand equipment including cash registers, scanners, and scales
- strong communication skills both verbal and written
- capable of handling monetary transactions accurately
- good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- ability to memorize product codes and company policies
- basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- knowledge of food safety or tobacco and alcohol sales certification preferred where applicable
Job Duties
- Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers
- operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner, and scale
- perform suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds
- maintain knowledge of product locations, UPC codes, and pricing
- keep check stand and work area clean, neat, and stocked
- stock, price, and rotate merchandise
- work in multi-station self-checkout lanes and customer service counters as assigned
- follow state and federal laws on restricted items
- adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC procedures
- regularly move within self-checkout area, expedite transactions, and maintain safety
- engage customers at self-checkout kiosks, assist with transactions, and limit shrinkage
- monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and address errors
- prioritize safety and report concerns according to policy
